SUMMARY:Capacity building workshop on harmonisation and development of curricula and training for solar thermal in ECOWAS region
DESCRIPTION:Background information and Partners\n\nThe International Network of Solar Technology and Application Resource Centres (STAR C)\, Cornerstone of Rural Electrification initiative (CORE) and the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) are partnering to support training on regional solar energy qualification frameworks and curricula for selected training and examination centres in the ECOWAS region.  \n  \nSTAR C is established with the objective to enhance regional solar energy quality infrastructure frameworks in International Solar Alliance (ISA) member states. STAR C is initiated by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and ISA\, with funding of the Government of France. The first phase of the STAR C project will focus on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)\, the East African Community (EAC) and the Pacific Community (SPC). The initiative is implemented under the umbrella for the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres (GN-SEC).   \n  \nCORE is an international initiative managed by the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE). CORE’s mission is to enable resilient rural and peri-urban communities by ensuring safety\, efficiency and reliability to become the cornerstone of decentralised electrification. CORE’s steering committee includes ARE\, UNIDO\, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)\, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL)\, UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and International Copper Alliance (ICA).   \n  \nECREEE was established by the ECOWAS Commission in 2008 during the 61st Session of ECOWAS Council of Ministers. ECREEE is a specialised ECOWAS agency based in Praia\, Cabo Verde\, with a public mandate to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency markets. It acts as an independent body but within the legal\, administrative and financial framework of ECOWAS rules and regulations. The overall mandate of ECREEE is to contribute to the sustainable economic\, social and environmental development of West Africa by improving access to modern\, reliable and affordable energy services\, energy security and reduction of energy related externalities (GHG\, local pollution). ECREEE has established a scheme for certifying the skills of solar PV installers and other sustainable energy professionals: the Regional Certification Scheme for Sustainable Energy Skills. The objective is to introduce a quality mark for sustainable energy skills that is recognised by professionals and end users across borders in all 15 ECOWAS member states. ECREEE serves as the regional certification body and aligns all structures and procedures with the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17024:2012 standard\, “Conformity assessment — General requirements for bodies operating certification of persons.  \n  \n  \n2.Objectives  \nBased on the assessment report delivered under the “Development of Regional Solar Energy Qualification Frameworks and Curricula in ECOWAS\, EAC and The Pacific Community” project\, the objective of this capacity building workshop is to support ECREEE to further advance with its regional efforts to harmonise qualification frameworks and curricula related to solar thermal training. This in turn will help ECREEE advance on its regional certification and examination efforts as already pioneered for level 1 off-grid solar systems.  \n  \n\n Draft Agenda\n\n  \n\n\n\nDay 1 – 15 April 2024 \n\n\n09.00 – 09.15 WAT \nWelcome remarks  \n\nECREEE \nARE \nUNIDO \n\n\n\n\n09.15 – 10.15 WAT \nTopic 1 (intro): Introduction to the STAR C Project and results of the initial assessment \n\n\n10.15 – 12.15 WAT \nTopic 2: Explanation and discussion on the setup of the solar thermal curriculum \n\n\n12.15 – 12.30 WAT \nWrap-up discussion \n\n\nDay 2 – 16 April 2024 \n\n\n09.00 – 09.15 WAT \nRecap day 1 and objectives day 2  \n\n2iE & Engreen \n\n\n\n\n09.15 – 10.45 WAT \nTopic 3a: Detailed overview and discussion on Solar thermal Curriculum Modules (1) \n\n\n10.45 – 11.00 WAT  \nBreak \n\n\n11.00 – 12.30 WAT \nTopic 3b: Detailed overview and discussion on solar thermal curriculum modules (2) + introduction on available training tools and materials  \n\n\n12.30 – 13.00 WAT \nWrap-up discussion & closing remarks  \n\nARE  \nECREEE \nUNIDO

SUMMARY:ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum - ESEF 2023
DESCRIPTION:During October 12 and 13\, we took part in the 8th edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF) 2023\, in Praia (Cape Verde). The event\, established in 2015\, is organized each year by the ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE). It aims to encourage cooperation and partnerships to accelerate the establishment of a viable market for sustainable energy solutions in the region.  \nThe Forum is an unmissable meeting place for renewable energies stakeholders in West Africa\, bringing together over the years Heads of State\, Ministers\, Heads of development Organizations\, financial Institutions\, stakeholders renowned private sector experts in the field of energy and climate.   \nOn the second day of the Forum\, we had the opportunity to participate in a Session of the Tripartite Consultative Committee\, established within the framework of the ECOWAS Certification of Sustainable Energy Skills (ECSES). We shared this session with Certification Experts from ECREEE\, Heads of Directorate or Agency on Renewable Agency and Energy Efficiency\, Academics\, and Associative Organizations representing the private sectors in ECOWAS countries.  \nDuring this session\, we then made a presentation of the GN SEC\, before moving to the STAR C Project\, and finishing with the Solar Academy which will be implemented in Senegal.
